Dar Housnia, “house of serenity”, is an elegant riad located in the heart of the Kaat Benahid district, one of the most authentic areas of the Marrakech Medina. It is only 12 minutes walk from the main square, Place Jemaa El Fna and five minutes from Medersa ben Youssef and the Museum of Marrakech. Dar Housnia was renovated by the Belgian architect Christophe Siméon, respecting all the traditional methods and the original Arabo-Andalusian architecture typical of Marrakech Riads. Its four suites, shortly to become six, each quite different from each other, all have luxurious private bathrooms with natural tadlakt décor. The stucco, wrought iron and old woodwork were all perfectly restored by skilful artisans. The objects decorating the riad have been collected over the years from the souks, art galleries and antique dealers. These, along with the mixture of flax, sabbrah and raffia cloths, combine to create and atmosphere of luxury and refinement. The plain background décor highlights the vivid colours of the Moroccan décor and artefacts. The central patio is shaded and planted with palm trees. A small traditional pool with fountain allows guests to cool off from the heat of the day. Its filtered water, heated on request, prolongs its usage into the winter months. Throughout the riad and on the various terraces there are places to relax, read or to dine by candlelight with friends. The riad and its terraces are kept cool in the summer months by the extensive use of water vaporisers. All rooms have a large double bed, or two singles on request and ample storage space and a private bathroom with toilet. |
