Marrakech - Riad Al Moussika

Riyad Al Moussika is situated in the ancient medina of Marrakech, five minutes walk from Place Jemâa El Fna. One of the three entrances is accessible by car and has a parking area. The property, once one of the residences of the former pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, has been refurbished to an extremely high standard with rigorous respect for the Andalusia style, whilst paying great attention to modern accessories in order to obtain the highest levels of comfort.

Five double bed rooms and one single room, all with a bathroom en suite have been created for the guests. All rooms have an air conditioning/heating system, telephone with external line, television with the major satellite channels (BBC, CNN etc.), and the possibility to have access to Internet.

One of the gates opens into a garden with palms; two old cypresses soar to the sky and bougainvillea climb across giant pergolas. In the centre of this beautiful garden is an Andalusia style pool thirteen meters long, tiled with an intricate mosaic design. The sound of water splashing from a white Carrara marble fountain and the song of the birds in the trees create an atmosphere of perfect tranquillity in the heart of the Medina.

All around the garden is a typical fondouk style cloister with at the end, a large music-reception room with a splendid painted cedar wood ceiling and a floor of white marble interlaced with local jelliges mosaic. The room is decorated with important modern paintings, a fireplace to warm chilly winter nights and to complete the room a hi-fi and a perfectly tuned art deco Pleyel grand piano for our music loving guests.

On the garden side is large formal Arab courtyard, with a magnificent wall fountain in mosaic. In the centre of the black and white marble floor is another white Carrara fountain on a bed of multi-coloured Moroccan mosaics surrounded by four orange trees. To the side is a loggia opposite the dining room with fire place, a white marble floor, painted cedar ceiling, a selection of modern paintings and a long parade table in cedar which seats twelve.

The remaining rooms on the ground floor are the white marble Hammam (Turkish bath) and the adjoining relaxation room where a professional massage can be arranged for guests.

The bedrooms are on the first floor, all with a bath/shower en suite; special care has been taken in the selection of all the materials employed, mattresses are made to measure using only natural fibres, (pure wool, cotton, jute), and with very comfortable orthopaedic springs. The pillows and duvets are in white goose-breast feathers, the covers in pure lambs wool in winter and pure cotton in summer, the sheets in pure satin Egyptian cotton and the towels and the bath rope in ticker cotton sponge.

There is a unique view of the medina and the Atlas mountains from the two terraces which are sheltered partially with wooden pergolas and surrounded by large terracotta flower vases. Tables, comfortable armchairs with cushions and teak chaises-longues allow guests to enjoy breakfast and candle lit dinners, as well as to sunbathe during the day.
On one of the terraces a pavilion overlooking the Atlas Mountains with Moroccan sofas, cushions and lamps, which provides total seclusion.

Riyad Al Moussika has a large, well-equipped kitchen and pantry allowing guests to enjoy a range of Moroccan, Italian and French recipes prepared by a resident Cordon Bleu Chef who has the gift of meeting the culinary needs of every guest.
